For any Game of Thrones enthusiast, Seville is a treat to explore. Be it the popular Alcazar Palace or a lesser-known and yet fascinating Castle of Almodóvar del Río, these are different Game of Thrones Seville locations that you must visit for a fun trip!

The city of Seville was always one of my favourite places to visit owing to its massive Catedral de Sevilla, bustling Plaza de Espana, historic Torre del Oro, and of course, medieval Royal Alcazar of Seville.

It was all about how this beautiful city has combined past and present to create a picturesque collage.

But when I first heard that a few episodes of Game of Thrones were filmed here, I became all the more curious about this city in Spain.

I began listing down all the Game of Thrones Seville locations and came across several sites including Alcazar Palace and the Seville Shipyard.

But apart from the popular ones, there are also some lesser-known Game of Thrones Seville sites that have stayed under the tourist radar for many years.

Places like the Osuna Bullring and The Castle of Almodóvar del Río are located a little away from Seville and yet, can be covered in a few hours.

Because of such filming locations, the Game of Thrones Seville tour is bound to be an exciting experience for every GOT enthusiast.

Mercury’s Pond

Used in: Game of Thrones Season 5, Episode: 2 The House of Black and White

The pond of mercury was used in a couple of scenes, but only as a backdrop and not as an important location.

But it still managed to catch the eye of viewers with its beauty. It was first used in episode 2 of season 5 where Jaime visited Dorne and was given the responsibility to bring Myrcella back.

The Mercury’s Pond can be seen when Ellaria Sand visits Prince Doran Martell during this episode.

The pond we see today in real Alcazar Seville Game of Thrones is adorned with frescoes and stonework.

It has a small bronze statue of Mercury that dates back to 1576. So, when you are touring Alcazar Palace, do stop by this pool for some time.

Baths of Maria de Padilla

Used in: Game of Thrones Season 5, Episode: 6 Unbowed, Unbent, Unbroken

Built as simple stone water cisterns during the 12th century, the Baths of Maria de Padilla have come a long way since then.

From a mere place to collect rainwater to being a mystical structure surrounded by myths and legends, this underground corridor is much more than history.

It is believed that Maria de Padilla, King Pedro’s mistress-turned-queen, often used to come here to seek peace and to take a bath.

This Alcazar Sevilla Game of Thrones site has gathered a lot of attention after featuring in the series.

This is the same place that witnessed Ellaria Sand meeting her daughters and plotting the death of Myrcella Lannister.

The reflections of sand snakes we see in the water and the simple stone curves on the ceiling are enough to give us a glimpse of what this place has to offer.

You will find stairs near the Mercury Pond that go down towards the Baths of Maria de Padilla. Spend some time at the Alcazar of Seville Game of Thrones site and let the walls tell you all the mythical stories seen over the centuries.

The Seville Shipyard

Used in: Game of Thrones Season 7, Episodes: 2 and 5 Stormborn and Eastwatch

The Seville Shipyard is a medieval site that dates back to the 1st century. The Gothic-style remains of this property were used as the Game of Thrones filmed in Seville during season 7.

The whole site can be seen as the Red Keep’s dungeons and crypt in King’s Landing first in episode 2 and then again in episode 5 during GOT season 7.

This is where the secret weapon against dragons was revealed by Qyburn. I

f you remember the secret meeting between Tyrion and Jaime where Tyrion requested to meet Cersei, the Shipyard was the backdrop used during that filming.

Unfortunately, the Seville Shipyard is not open to the public today and is expected to be renovated soon.

You can still see the outside and there is one window that offers the inside view of the shipyard. Let’s hope that the shipyard will be restored soon and we will get to explore this ancient site that has so many stories to tell.

The Castle of Almodóvar del Río

Used in: Game of Thrones Season 7

Perched on top of the hill and situated in the town of Almodóvar del Río, Castillo Almodovar del Rio is only an hour away from Seville.

Even before reaching the castle, take a look at it from the town and you will see how it was made for House Tyrell’s home Highgarden.

Take a tour of the Castle of Almodóvar del Río and the dungeons will remind you of the ancestral home of House Lannister.

It’s because these dungeons were used to create some parts of Casterly Rock. you get to see a glimpse of the castle when Jaime and The Lannister Army arrives at Highgarden.

The VFX-created vast, open grounds you saw around Highgarden are replaced by the real-life panoramic view of the town. But that does not make it any less spectacular.

Even if you are not a GOT fan, visiting this castle can be a fascinating experience. With a history that dates back to the middle age, the castle has a lot more to offer than GOT filming locations.

You can go back to the medieval era by attending wrestling matches, eating the royal lunch, dancing to your heart’s content, and even trying your hand at medieval combat training.

Of course, there will not be dragons in the dungeon, but that doesn’t mean the Castle of Almodóvar del Río is anything less than interesting.

The Roman Ruins of Itálica

Used in: Different episodes of Game of Thrones Season 7 and 8

The Roman Ruins of Itálica is located outside of Santiponce town and are only 10 kilometres away from Seville.

Once known to be one of the largest in the entire Roman Empire, the ruins have weathered all the storms since 117.

Visit this site and you will realize why it needs to be included in every Game of Thrones tour Seville.

Used as the Dragonpit of King’s Landing in seasons 7 and 8 of Game of Thrones, these ruins were closed to the public for a month during the filming.

It was worth all the time because as you stand among the Roman Ruins of Itálica, all the suspense and drama that unfolded here when Daenerys arrived at Dragon Pit to meet Cersei will rush back to you.

This is where Daenerys got down from the fierce dragon and tried convincing Cersei to join them in their war against the Army of the Dead.

Without a Weight running around screaming its head off or wiggling its hands to get a hold of anyone, you might find the ruins a little peaceful. But hey, can’t complain about that now, can we?

Take a walk down memory lane and let it take you to GOT season 8. You will remember the powerful scene where Tyrion asked Brandon Stark to be King of Seven Kingdoms during the finale.

So, visit the Roman Ruins of Itálica and stand where Tyrion stood. Let it remind you how we all waited with bated breath while Tyrion asked Bran, “Will you lead the Seven Kingdoms to the best of your abilities from this day until your last day?”

The Osuna Bullring / Plaza de Toros de Osuna – Museo Taurino

Used in: Game of Thrones Season 5, Episode: 9 The Dance of Dragons

The Osuna Bullring has seen how the bloody fights in Daznak’s Pit in Meereen were filmed and how Drogon fearlessly rescued Daenerys.

Okay, even if there was no dragon, why spoil all the imaginary drama, right? This less-popular point of interest came on the tourist radar after Seville Spain Game of Thrones was shot here.

This century-old ring was enhanced with the help of CGI and a few more seating rows were added to make it look even more spectacular.

As the Sons of the Harpy came forward to murder Daenerys and started killing slaves, it resulted in the battle of Danzak’s Pit.

And when we all thought Daenerys might not escape from all this unharmed, Drogon the dragon appeared out of nowhere mercilessly killing those trying to harm Danny before flying away with Daenerys on its back.
