The Andaman and Nicobar islands are an archipelago in the Bay of Bengal. Some of these islands are inhabited by indigenous tribes and are off-limits to tourists.

Andaman islands is an excellent honeymoon destination in India in March. Andaman has gorgeous white sand beaches with turquoise water, palm-lined shores, mangroves and tropical rainforests.

It is one of the best destinations in India for scuba diving and snorkelling. Andaman is special not only because of its beautiful and clean beaches but also because it has about 180 coral species! Scuba diving here means seeing the colourful coral reef on the island.

Nicobar island is a restricted area where tribals live. So, to enter Nicobar, locals and foreigners need permits and are not allowed to roam freely. Neither locals nor foreigners nor allowed to stay there overnight.

Andaman’s maximum temperature is 32°C, and the minimum temperature is 23°C. So if you visit in March, you’ll have to stay away from the beach during the noon.

Port Blair is the capital city of Andaman, where tourists land. You can live in Port Blair for a while, do some sightseeing and then live for a few days on Havelock or Neil island. Havelock island has Radhanagar beach ranks in all ‘best beaches in Asia’ lists.

What to see and do in the Andaman islands

Goa

Average temperature: 21°/32°C

Average rainfall: 2mm

Goa, on the southwestern coast of India, is one of the best places to visit in India in March because it’s a fabulous beach destination with warm temperatures, great food, cheap alcohol and raging parties.

For those who’d like to relax and not party, you can live near a quieter beach and enjoy the peaceful, laid-back Goan life. Goa also has idyllic beaches where you can relax and have a beer at the ‘shacks’ on the beach.

The average temperature in March is 27°C. The maximum temperature can go up to 33°C. So, it’s hot at noon. It gets cooler at night; the temperature is around 20°C.

The sun is quite intense during the day, so carry a powerful sunscreen with high SPF and plan your days so you can be indoors from 12-3 p.m.

What to see and do in Goa

Goa has two regions – North and South Goa. North Goa has Baga Beach, Anjuna Beach, Vagator Beach and Calangute Beach, which are full of shacks and resorts. You’ll find lots of party’s happening here.

South Goa has Palolem Beach, Colva Beach, Butterfly Beach, and Majorda Beach, which are quiet, secluded and serene beaches. Choose which part you’d like to stay in based on what sort of vacation you are looking for.

You can do water sports like parasailing, scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking and jet-skiing in Goa. Many beaches like Sinquerim, Calangute, Baga, Anjuna and Dona have small operators who offer water sports.

Goa also has Dudhsagar Falls, one of the highest falls in India. However, check with locals if it’s worth visiting the Falls in March, as there may be little water flowing down during this time.

Many Catholics live in Goa, along with Hindus. So you can see Goan catholic culture here. Goa has a unique cuisine with delicious dishes that non-vegetarians love.

Other than the beaches, here’s what you should see and do in Goa

  • The capital area – Panaji

Mumbai in March

Average temperature: 33°/21°C

Average rainfall: 0 mm

Mumbai, India’s largest city, is one of the best places to visit in India in March because the weather’s good during this time; there are no rains.

The maximum temperature is 31 °C, and the minimum temperature is 21 °C. Though if you are not from a coastal place, you could find the coastal city’s humidity challenging to deal with.

Mumbai has an international airport that’s very well connected to the UK, US and Europe. The city is one of the most preferred tourist destinations in India by foreign tourists.

It’s a busy city with people with a cosmopolitan culture. It’s also the heart of the thriving Hindi film industry of the country.

Mumbai has beaches, museums, colonial architecture, fabulous cafes, amazing street food and other unique places worth seeing. I’d suggest living in Colaba, the southernmost part of the city, or Bandra or Juhu.

Bandra and Juhu are posh suburbs with swanky cafes and clubs and are pretty close to the other places worth seeing in Mumbai. They are also where many Bollywood stars live.

You can’t cover all the cultural and historical things the city offers unless you spend at least four to five days.

What to see and do in Mumbai

  • See the Gateway of India, shop at Colaba Causeway and see the Taj Mahal Palace (a luxury hotel with Indo-Saracenic architecture). Eat at the Leopold Cafe in Colaba.

  • See the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, an ornate Victorian Railway station.

  • See the Haji Ali Dargah, a mosque off the coast of Worli.

  • Take a walk at Marine drive, a 3-kilometre promenade along the sea.

  • See Mount Mary Church in Bandra and shop at Hill Road and Linking road, the local markets selling clothes, bags and jewellery.

  • There are also excellent museums like the Prince of Wales museum and the Bhau Daji Lad museum.

  • You take a tour of Film city, the part of the city where films and TV serials are shot. You can see pre-designed sets and film studios through such a tour.

Delhi, the country’s capital, one of the best tourist places in India in March, is also one of the best places to travel in India in March. Delhi is quite cold before March, with temperatures dropping as low as 1-4°C.

The weather starts getting pleasant from March onwards. The temperature is 14-30°C in March — it’s ideal for sightseeing.

Delhi has outstanding historical monuments, great museums and delectable street food. It also has the Sansad Bhavan (parliament house), which is the seat of the bicameral government in India.

The city is very different depending on whether you are in Old Delhi or New Delhi. Old Delhi has narrow lanes; parts of it are not accessible through a four-wheeler.

It is the historic part of the city; its origin dates to the time of the Mughal rule in India. And New Delhi has planned, wide tree-lined streets with government buildings and corporate offices flanking its sides.

You may have heard of Chandni Chowk, a busy shopping street in Old Delhi, famous for its clothes and parathas. Delhi is great for cheap street shopping. Here’s more about what to do and see in Delhi –

What to see and do in Delhi

  • You can also see the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the Indian president’s residence, on certain days. Here’s information about when you can visit.

  • Out of the many museums, I suggest seeing National Museum, a museum with Indian artefacts from different centuries. You should also visit the Archaeological Museum, which houses Mughal antiques and the Museum of Folk and Tribal Art, which has specimens of folk art from all over the country. There are 29 other great museums in Delhi about agriculture, art, science, and the Indian police. So choose what you’d like to see.

  • Don’t leave Delhi without doing some street shopping. You’ll find cheap yet tasteful things here. Go to the Sarojini Nagar Market for western clothes and Delhi Haat for handicrafts, bags, jewellery and clothes
