If you’re wondering if working on the road is possible, the answer is a loud yes! The remote lifestyle is a big thing in our age and working while travelling is how people afford this lifestyle. While content creation on socials is one way to do it, having a blog is indispensible. Here’s how I do it on Squarespace and easy way to set it up and get started!

Travelling the world has always been my passion.

Imagine a life filled with adventure, where the thrill of exploration and the beauty of the unknown become constant companions. I always pictured a world where work and travel seamlessly intertwined, where I could traverse continents, experience diverse cultures, and immerse myself in the wonders of our lovely planet, despite my day job.

This extraordinary journey that I embarked upon took me to over 50 countries; Europe and beyond, while simultaneously juggling the responsibilities of my job which is also one of my passions.

For too long, it was believed that fulfilling one’s travel dreams requires a life of leisure or unlimited resources. But this can’t be more wrong! I am a testament to the fact that a conventional job need not limit one’s ability to explore the far reaches of the globe.

It was the yearning to see the world that led me to embark on a path less taken, combining my love for travel with the demands of my day job.

You might wonder how it is possible to balance the constraints of a demanding career with the desire to traverse the globe. The answer lies in finding the perfect harmony between work and travel, creating a lifestyle that allows for both professional growth and enriching adventures.

By making intentional choices and prioritising experiences over possessions, I have discovered that the true essence of travel lies in the moments and memories created, rather than the number of passport stamps collected.

It was with these two passions, my love for travel and my job, that I started travel blogging and created Continent Hop in mid-2015, to encourage professionals to invest in travel by making the right choices.

I embraced the art of blogging while on the move, to share my adventures with you, my readers, and inspire you to chase your own dreams.

Through vivid narratives, detailed itineraries, stunning photography, and personal tips, I aim to first transport my readers to the destinations which I have had the fortune to visit.

Whether it is scaling the majestic peaks of the Swiss Alps, strolling through the vibrant street markets of Asia, or indulging in mouth-watering cuisines across Europe, Continent Hop is a digital portal, inviting fellow travel enthusiasts to accompany me on these remarkable escapades.

Guide to building a blog on Squarespace

Squarespace is a great tool for all kinds of travel bloggers, amateur or experienced. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how you can start your travel blogusing Squarespace:

  • Sign up and choose a template

Visit the Squarespace website and sign up for an account. Once you’re registered, you’ll be prompted to choose a template. Explore the available options and select a template that aligns with your travel blog’s style and goals. Remember that you can customize the template later to match your preferences.

  • Customize your Template

Here, you can customize various aspects of your blog, including fonts, colours, layout, and navigation. Take your time to experiment with different options until you achieve the desired look and feel for your travel blog

  • Choose a suitable domain name

Brainstorm a list of potential domain names that align with your travel blog’s theme, brand, and niche. Consider keywords related to travel, your blog’s focus, or your own unique name.

Then choose a domain extension i.e. the endings of website addresses, such as .com, .net, or .org. While .com is the most common and widely recognized extension, you can also consider other extensions that may be relevant to your travel blog, such as .travel or country-specific extensions like .co.uk or .fr.

  • Change the heading

The header is the first thing that the audience sees when they visit your site. So make sure that the name of your blog is catchy, as this not only helps to get your name out there but also builds relationships with your potential audience.

  • Personalize the navigation menu

The navigation menu is what increases the accessibility of your blog; ideally, the blog should be as accessible as possible so that readers can easily navigate through the blog.

Start by creating essential pages for your travel blog, such as an ‘About’ page, a ‘Contact’ page, and a ‘Blog’ page. You can add more pages as needed, such as destination-specific pages or travel tips sections. Organize your pages in a logical hierarchy to ensure easy navigation for your readers.

  • Introduce yourself in the ‘About’ section

Readers have an instant connection with your blog if they can connect with who you are and what you do. Sharing a bit about who you are, your passions and your travel experiences can create a sense of authenticity, relatability, and trust among your audience.

So, don’t forget to write a good introduction of yourself and a decent photo. Remember to keep it concise, engaging, and focused on the aspects that are most relevant to your audience.

By sharing your unique story, travel style, and perspectives, you carve out a niche for yourself in the travel blogging landscape. This uniqueness helps attract readers who resonate with your experiences and keeps them coming back for more.

  • Start writing your content

To create engaging blog posts, click on the ‘Blog’ page and start adding your first post. Squarespace provides a user-friendly editor where you can format text, add images or videos, and apply styling options. Utilize headings, subheadings, and bullet points to make your content scannable and visually appealing.

Preview it on different devices and screen sizes to ensure a seamless browsing experience. Once you’re satisfied, click the ‘Publish’ button to make your blog live. Share your blog on social media, engage with other travel bloggers, and explore strategies like guest posting to increase visibility and attract readers.

  • Add media

Relying on stunning visuals is a hallmark of any travel blog so add photos of the spots you are visiting by using Squarespace’s image and video blocks to embed media into your posts.

Use tools such as Lightroom to edit your pictures and make sure they’re not too heavy in size!

  • Integrate with social media handles and add an email newsletter

Now that your blog is up and ready, it’s time to expand its reach and spread the word! Add social sharing buttons to your blog posts to allow readers to easily share your content. Embed social media feeds or links such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Pinterest, and Tumblr to your profiles to provide additional avenues for your audience to connect with you.

Building an email list is essential for staying connected with your readers. Use Squarespace’s built-in email campaign feature or integrate popular email marketing services to create a newsletter signup form.

  • Update your blog regularly and integrate SEO

Your very own travel blog is online! But don’t lose steam just after adding one or two posts and keep updating it regularly so that the viewership does not go down. Not only would this prevent your work from going stale but it would also enable access to the latest updates and information about places you have been visiting.

Remember, building a successful travel blog takes time and effort. Continuously update your content, engage with your audience, and analyse your blog’s performance using Squarespace’s analytics.

Squarespace has played a pivotal role in my love for travel and my journey as a travel blogger. Offering an intuitive and versatile platform has empowered me to transform my passion into a digital narrative that inspires others to explore and embrace the world.

With this tool by my side, I am ready and excited to embark on new journeys, uncover hidden gems, and inspire many others to follow their dream of going around the world!
