Working remotely doesn’t mean staying in one place the whole time. If you have a week or two in the UK, you can still see a lot without rushing. The key is to pick places that are easy to reach and simple to explore.

Here are some places you can consider.

London

If it’s your first time in the UK, you’ll likely start in London. It’s easy to get around, and you’ll find many cafés and coworking spots where you can work for a few hours.
After work, you can walk along the Thames, visit areas like Notting Hill or Shoreditch, or stop by a museum. You could also watch a show in the evening. Even a few days here can feel memorable.

Edinburgh

If you prefer a city you can walk around easily, try Edinburgh. Most places are close to each other, so you won’t spend much time commuting.
You can work from a café in the morning, then head out to Arthur’s Seat or walk along the Royal Mile later in the day. It’s a good place to balance work and exploring.

Bath

Bath is a good option if you want a slower pace. It’s small, so you can see most of it in a short time.
You can visit the Roman Baths, spend some time at a spa, or take a walk by the river after work. It’s quieter than London but still has plenty to do.

York

York is easy to explore on foot. The streets are narrow, and many places are close together.
You can walk through The Shambles, visit York Minster, or just take your time moving around the city. It’s a good place if you like simple plans between work sessions.

The Cotswolds

If you want a break from cities, you can spend a couple of days in the Cotswolds. It’s more about slowing down than seeing many attractions. You can visit villages like Bourton-on-the-Water or Bibury. It helps if you have a car or join a tour, since getting around can take time.

Brighton

If you want to be near the sea, Brighton is an easy choice. It’s about an hour from London by train.
You can work from a café near the beach, walk along the pier, or explore small shops in The Lanes. It’s a simple weekend trip if you’re staying in London.

Make the Most of Your Time

You don’t need to visit too many places. It’s better to pick one main city and add one or two smaller stops.
You might spend your morning working in a café, then head out for a walk or a short trip nearby. Even with limited time, you can still enjoy different parts of the UK without feeling rushed.

Planning Your Future in Britain Through the Further Leave to Remain Visa Route

The UK allows foreign nationals to come and settle here via a range of different visas and permissions.

These include Family visas, work visas or asylum claims.

However, foreign nationals are rarely granted the ability to settle in the UK for good as soon as they arrive. Many will instead have to obtain a visa first and then later apply for further leave to remain once they’ve stayed in the UK for long enough.

Read on to learn more about further leave to remain and how it can be a crucial step for you to plan your future stay in Britain.

The Eligibility Criteria for Further Leave to Remain

As previously stated, eligibility criteria for further leave to remain will depend entirely on which visa you came to the UK on.

When applying for further leave to remain, you will normally have to show that you still meet all of the eligibility criteria that applied when you first got your visa.

For example, a Skilled Worker visa is granted on the condition that you have a valid job from an eligible sponsor in the UK. In order to be granted further leave to remain for this visa, you will have to show that you still have a valid job from an eligible sponsor and that this job meets all the requirements, such as meeting the minimum salary threshold.

Similarly, if you have an Innovator Founder visa, you will need to prove that you’re either still running a business in the UK or that you wish to set up a new one.

Although for the most part, the eligibility criteria for further leave to remain will be identical to the criteria for when you first applied for your visa, there are some exceptions. For example, the minimum English language threshold when first applying for a Spouse visa is Level A1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) scale. However, when applying for further leave to remain, you will need to show that you meet the new higher threshold of Level A2 instead.

There are also some general criteria that will apply to all applicants, however. For example, if you have received a serious criminal conviction while in the UK or have been found to obtain your original visa through deceitful or illegal means, your application for further leave to remain will be refused and you may be asked to leave the UK.

How to Apply for Further Leave to Remain

You will generally need to apply for further leave to remain on the official UK government website using your UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account.

Much like the initial visa application process, you will need to fill in your personal information and supporting documents and also demonstrate that you meet all of the criteria.

You may also have to attend a UK Visa and Citizenship Application Services (UKCAS) service point to give your biometrics.

If your partner, spouse or children are also in the UK with you, then they may also apply for further leave to remain at the same time.

Further Leave to Remain: Costs and Processing Times

There is no one single cost for further leave to remain applications. Rather, the cost of further leave to remain is the same price as it would take to apply for your visa for the first time.

Note that this cost may have increased since you first applied for your visa.

Similarly, there is no one straightforward processing timeline for further leave to remain applications. Different types of visa take different lengths of time for the Home Office to process, which means that your application may take much longer or shorter than someone else applying for further leave to remain at the same time.

However, it is highly recommended that you ensure your application for further leave to remain is organised and well-supported with documentary evidence in order to prevent any unnecessary delays in processing your application.

Further Leave to Remain: Your Future in the UK

Further leave to remain is a necessary step that many foreign nationals will go through in order to secure long-term residency in the UK.

The key step when applying is to ensure you know the eligibility criteria for your specific visa route inside out and make sure that you meet every single one of them in order to prevent a refusal.

Do it right, and you’ll be one step closer to securing your future in the UK.
